Antique Chinese Brass & Shagreen Trousse Eating Set, Late 19th-Early 20th C. China. The set comprising: 1 pair of wood chopsticks and 1 wood handled knife fitted in a brass bound carrying case with shagreen veneered panels. Unmarked, the top of the case with brass flange hanging ring.
Part of a man’s formal dress in China, Mongolia and Tibet up until the early 20th C., ‘trousse’ sets were usually accompanied by a variety of accessories such as pickle spears, toothpicks and tweezers.

Overall, the set is in good condition with appropriate signs of age. The surface of the case with a few losses to the shagreen veneer, the metal lightly oxidized, with some light dents/abrasions from handling and general use.
